Another month, another extension in the dates of the league resumption. If you thought for one reason that the wait was over, I invite you to think again since the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League kick-off is now set for December 3rd, 2020.

Initially, the League start date had been tentatively set for October 17, 2020. This wasn’t to be, as it was later pushed to November 20th due to the hard to navigate SOPs and other restrictions on Sports Resumption.

FUFA has as of 29 October 2020 confirmed that the licensing committee will issue the 2020/21 Club licenses by November 3rd, 2020. Players’ licenses and bench permits to be issued out by November 10 while the League fixture will be out by November 10.

This comes in a bid to ensure that plans are laid in place in order to counter the Covid-19 pandemic. This was said during the briefing:

“All licensed players and technical staff for the 2020/21 season who will undertake sporting roles at training and matches will undergo a mandatory Covid19 test,”

“Only persons who test negative and get issued with a FUFA Covid19 clearance certificate shall be eligible to participate in the team training and matches.”

The body maintains that testing of players and technical staff will be administered every after a fortnight. A match shall only be rescheduled if a club has less than 10 outward players and 1 goalkeeper that are not positive to the Covid19 test.

This has not by any level been detrimental to our preparations for the 2020/2021 season. If anything, it grants us more time to have the players (New and Old) create chemistry.
