URA FC narrowly edged Ethiopian Coffee with a 2-1 scoreline in the first preliminary round game of the CAF Confederations Cup played at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday, 12 September 2021.

Steven Mukwala’s first-half brace helped to lift the Tax Collectors above the Ethiopians who seemed assertive in transition but also dominated proceedings in the second half of the game most especially.

The win was also a welcome bonus for Sam Timbe who named a strong offensive starting XI with Steven Mukwala, Cromwell Rwothomio and a debutant Vianne Ssekajugo. These were supported with a midfield of Saidi Kyeyune and team skipper Shafik Kagimu.

The Tax Collectors dominated the first half with goals and not possession, exerting a lot of pressure on the opposition backline who preferred to initiate their attacks from the back.

The forward players in yellow had numerous opportunities to score but had to wait till the 23rd minute for Mukwala to convert with a header from Vianne Ssekajugo’s headed pass that came off Derrick Ndahiro’s cross.

The second goal was even better as last season’s URA FC topscorer instinctively latched a rebound with a shot at the edge of the area and perfectly found the back of the net to put the tax collectors two goals to the good.

The second half of the game presented a different challenge as the Tax Collectors were pushed to the back, eventually conceding in the 55th minute off a beautifully created goal from Solomon Tesfay to make it 2-1.

URA made a few offensive substitutions geared at countering the threat from the opponents with Joackiam Ojera for the captain, Ivan Serubiri for Viane Ssekajugo and Kabon Living for Cromwel Rwothomio. The game ended 2-1 which ultimately meant that the Tax Collectors will travel to Ethiopia for the return leg rescheduled for next Sunday 17th September 2021 with a numerical advantage.
